What is Recycle for Sight?

It is a program developed by Lions International to get needed eyeglasses to those who cannot otherwise acquire them.

This program is co-sponsered by LensCrafters.

Steps in Program (in Chili)

First, Eyeglasses are donated via bins in local libraries, banks and other institutions.

Next, bins are emptied and brought to the home of Lion Charles Prevost for sorting.
The eyeglasses are then sorted for: sunglasses, broken glasses, plastic and metal frames, and single lenses.
The sorted eyeglasses are then shipped to a center for determining the prescription of the lenses, and further sorted.
Eyeglasses are then cleaned and packaged by prescription.
Prepared eyeglasses are then stored in a warehouse until they are requested for an eyeglasses dispensing mission.
Eyeglasses sorted once again by the needs of the mission in preparation for the mission.
Hundreds of people wait in lines at dispensing stations to get an eye test to determine their specific needs.
Eyeglasses are dispensed and adjusted to fit each individual.
Recipient can now see clearly, possibly for the first time ever. With this ability he/she can now maintain employment to support their family.
